Originally issued on the vintage Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft yellow header in 1962, this Mono pressing features Soviet violin legend David Oistrakh performing Bach’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor (BWV 1041) and No. 2 in E major (BWV 1042) with the Wiener Symphoniker.
Side B features the famous father-and-son pairing of David and Igor Oistrakh performing Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins in D minor (BWV 1043) with Sir Eugene Goossens and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This recording is widely considered one of the definitive 20th-century interpretations of Bach’s violin concertos.
